Fifth Grade's First Trip to the Armory

5th Grades trip to the Armory

by Jessica

This is the first trip for this years 5th grade. We went to the Armory. We had to do curl-ups and it really wasn’t much fun for the kids who are not really good at it. Then, we had to do track - two laps should do it! Then we had a little fun playing Team Airborne with the giant beach balls. It was a challenge keeping a giant beach ball in the air, but it was really fun!

First Fridays by Shanthi

Today was our second First Friday. We made up dreams that are like the ones in our read-aloud, the BFG. With the help of our parents we wrote down the dreams down and glued them onto dream jars. The BFG is a story about Sophie, a girl who is snatched out of her bed by a giant. But, she is lucky, because her kidnapper is a good and kind giant. The giant, unlike the others that eat children, blows good dreams to sleeping children, and keeps dreams in glass jars. BFG.jpg

The PS 154 School Yard Jam by Sage

The School Jam is where bands will play music for people's entertainment. It’s where you can jump on the bouncy house and be crazy. You can go in to the cafeteria and buy some food. These are all the fun stuff you can do at the school jam. The school jam is also about you helping the school by giving them a little bit of your money so we won’t have to give up any other teachers.

One thing that was really messy is some people were painting on a piece of paper on the wall. Then a lot of other people came and started painting over that. Soon it got so wet and messy it fell down!

Multiplication Madness!

It is EXTREMELY important that our fifth graders have the times tables/ multiplication tables memorized as we move through our math curriculum. Nearly every standard the students have to meet involves the understanding of the multiplication tables.

We are reviewing the times tables in class and I would appreciate any support at home if your child still has some of the tables to master. Flash cards are great, and just 5 to 10 minutes of practice each night can really help. I also have some links to multiplication games sites on the left so that your child can play these online.

Thanks!
