Fifth graders spent time this week looking more closely at the Statue of Liberty and The New Colossus, the poem inscribed upon the statue’s pedestal. Students uncovered symbolism in text and images related to American Monuments and the idea of the American Dream.

Author Visit

Sisters Grimm and N.E.R.D.S. author Michael Buckley stopped by to chat with the fifth graders about his writing journey. We all left very inspired to tell our stories!

Voting Sticker Redesign

Students drafted new ideas for the NYC voting stickers in Humanities this week. Maybe you’ll see one of their designs during a future election!

We’ve finally wrapped our unit on memoir writing. Students read and left compliments for their fellow classmates. Take a look!

Fifth Grade Ofrenda

Friday’s classes designed and described an ofrenda as a writing warmup. The ofrenda is an altar celebrating the life of a loved one or an admired one that is put up for Dia de Muertos. Check out some of our presentations.
