We saw so many amazing sea creatures, like sharks, seals, penguins and flounder. It was great meeting William, Carl and Quint, and all of our new buddies at the Aquarium.

Our Journey Has Begun!
The students are creating characters and family dynamics that they will use on their trip to Oregon. Soon they will be buying supplies, filling their wagons, and making their way West.
Brooklyn Library Archives
The fifth graders visited the Brooklyn Public Library's Brooklyn Collection archive to see photographs and artifacts from several Brooklyn-based civil rights' movements.
Baby Shower for Ms. Marucci
Special thanks to all of our students and families for creating a special morning for Ms. Marucci and her soon-to-be baby girl.
The Dinner Party Place Settings
The fifth graders took inspiration from their visit to "The Dinner Party" by Judy Chicago and designed plates and place settings that represent themselves and their identities. We discussed color choices, symbolism and design ideas, and the students used markers, colored pencil and construction paper scraps to create them. We will soon be hanging them outside in the hallway!

Civics Presentations
5th Graders put together short presentations on the civics topics we've studied the past two weeks. We had poems on the Statue of Liberty, skits on taxation and posters on active political participation. Enjoy!

Civics Lessons
We piloted a new citywide Civics program this month. We learned about what it means to be American, thought critically about symbolism in the Great Seal and the Statue of Liberty, discussed the First Amendment, and developed a school budget using tax dollars. Check out some of the photos from our lessons.

Thanks, Georgia!
Luke's mom joined us for a presentation on legendary artist, Pablo Picasso, and led the students (and teachers) of 5-307 through an upside-down drawing exercise. Check out our work on February 9th at the PS 154 Art Gallery.
