Our Trip to 826 NYC
Dear Parents and Families,
I am excited to inform you that Class 5-307 won a
spot at 826NYC for a special writing workshop. Each year, teachers enter a lottery for their
hard-to-come-by trips. We will be
participating in a Writing for Television workshop on Monday, October
1st, from 10:30 a.m. – 12: 30 p.m. 826NYC is located at 372 5th
Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn (very close to MS 51!) between 5th
and 6th streets.
You can read about 826NYC at
We will be leaving school at approximately 9:40
a.m. and taking the F train to the 4th Avenue stop, where we will
walk to 826NYC. The session ends
at 12:30 p.m., and weather depending, we will either walk back to school or
take the F train back to the 15th Street – Prospect Park station.
Our class will be returning to school at about 1:15 p.m.
Students will need to prepare a bagged lunch to
eat in our classroom upon our return.
Students will also need to be sure to bring a snack since they will be
eating lunch later than usual. No glass bottles, please!
This will be our first trip taking the subway,
and our first trip outside of the classroom. It is very important that students behave as respectful
representatives of the PS 154 community.
Great behavior may result in the planning of more field trips and
activities. Rule breakers may be
barred from future activities or trips based on their behavior!
We would appreciate up to 6 parent volunteers
that would like to accompany us on our trips. I would like to inform you that the Department of Education technically allows for only two adults
to ride for free on the subway during field trips, so please bring Monthly
Metrocards or subway fare. Usually, we can all go for free, but we have been
stopped before!

Middle School
A notice will be going home tomorrow about middle school. In the meantime, you may want to brush up on the ins and outs of our district's middle schools.
You can find more information by typing "middle school" into the search bar at the NYC DOE website (http://schools.nyc.gov/default.htm).
You can find the middle school directory for District 15 by clicking here and downloading the PDF.
Start looking into middle schools and signing up for tours now or as soon as you can. They sometimes fill up quickly.
